What time will we leave Auckland on Saturday 3rd February?

We plan to leave Auckland City at 8:00am to arrive at Waipoua by 11:00am. A specific meeting point will be confirmed with attendees closer to the time.


What will the sleeping arrangements be?

Sleeping marae-style as a group in Hokianga will be part of the experience of this trip. Please pack a sleeping bag for the marae stay on Saturday and Sunday night.


Do I need to know about the SS Ventnor story?

No. This trip will offer the chance to hear this history, and for more personal stories about this event to be shared if desired.


What if I don’t know much about tikanga Māori/Māori protocol?

Knowledge of protocol is not a requirement of this trip. Instead, a willingness to embrace new knowledge will be helpful along this learning journey. Rest assured that guidance will be provided for tikanga involved when visiting marae, sacred sites and attending pōwhiri.


Do I need to be a member of NZCA to attend?

Yes. As this trip is hosted and subsidised by NZCA, you will need to be a 2023 financial member.

Can I invite my New Zealand Chinese friends or family?

Yes. We invite all Chinese New Zealanders aged 35 and under to express their interest, as long as they are members of a local NZCA regional branch. We recognise that parts of the itinerary might have particular significance for certain families, or might be special to share with friends.


What time will we return to Auckland?

We estimate that we will be arrive back on the bus in Auckland at 6pm on Tuesday 6th February.
